Chances are good that you're surrounded by others at work (and in life) who believe in your abilities, your leadership and the special and unique qualities that make you you. But do you believe in you?
Let's face it. If we don't believe in ourselves and the skills we bring to the table, it's doubtful that, in the long run, others will either. But how to we believe and truly invest in ourselves?
Develop Yourself
Is there something you've wanted to learn? Is mentoring available for you to hone your skills and strengthen what you bring to the table? I'm sure there are opportunities out there that exist to help you become more knowledgeable, skilled and competent.
One easy start might be a MOOC - massive open online content. So many courses from the most notable universities and research facilities in the world are offering free online learning opportunities that anyone interested in growing and learning can certainly find something out there of interest.
Is there a group out there that you can join and be around like-minded individuals? How about different thinkers who can expose you to new thoughts to view concepts and the world differently? Many women, like me, have followed the "Lean In" work with groups around the nation of women who come together as women to learn, grown and thrive.
Learn a New Skill
Growth isn't just reserved for the professional you. When was the last time you tried something for the first time? Yoga? Cooking in a crock pot? Painting pottery?
Tapping into your own creativity, even if you look in the mirror and confess "I'm not creative!", is a great way to grow and challenge yourself. The ability to be creative and try something new is what helps us thrive as human beings. And who knows? You might have a hidden talent that needs a little nurturing so it can be shared with the world.
Take Care of You
We live in such a busy world, that we often don't take the time to slow down and listen to our bodies. To care for ourselves. To go the doctor and get checked that niggling cough that just won't go away.
Contributing to the world and providing for our families and communities start with a healthy self, from eating to exercise. And what we gain from caring for ourselves helps us give more and grown more.
It all comes full circle. Giving. Growing. Thriving. Caring. Investments begin with the "me."
