For What Are You Unapologetic?

I recently asked a question on Facebook that generated many great comments from some of my favorite leaders and colleagues....for what are you unapologetic?

And the depth of the responses! As 2016 begins, here is what leaders (mostly in education) have to say about what they stand for, what they feel about leadership, and how they lead based on the question - for what are you unapologetic. Which resonates best with you?

Having a vision.

Having a strong work/life balance.

Making decisions that are in the best interest of students.

Always take the high road, no matter what.

Saying what I believe, speaking the truth, doing what is right.

Being myself and not who anyone else thinks I should be, and standing my ground, even when it's not what my boss wants to hear.

Taking a stance against race and gender comments.

Criticizing when it's due, and not sugar coating it.

Standing up to bullies.

Doing the right thing, regardless of the consequences.

Building others up, not tearing them down.

Expecting each member of the team to take full responsibility for their work, their actions, and for those they oversee and support.

Advocating for full funding in public education and improving the educational system in California.

Supporting the success of educators who strive to make a difference.

Doing what is right simply because it is right, no matter what.

And finally....

Believing in a public education system that educates all, regardless of race, class, ability, gender and family ties.

As you head into 2016, ask yourself....for what are you unapologetic? Might be a great way to launch into a new project, new goals, new job, or even a new focus. Here's to a GREAT 2016.
