Living in the Present

So much going on. So many distractions. And its Monday, which means we'll likely be bombarded by more today than most days.

What does that quote make you think about? Maybe you can relate? I know I can. Keeping my mind in the present is likely as challenging for me as it is for many of you.

The Buddhists call it "monkey mind" and I'm surprised I haven't heard that reference before. As a mom of teenage girls who are incredibly active, and being a school administrator with volunteer work piled on top. It can be exhausting.

One easy way to quiet a busy mind is using a one word mantra and repeating it over and over again. Like "breathe" or "focus" or "relax".

Many more great ways to do this, but I don't want to spoil the surprise that is held in the reading or video below. Keep reading!

Check this out. And...hey....happy Monday!

If you haven't discovered Shine Text yet, you should. It's an app that shares daily motivation. A recent article on Shine (I promise....it's short!) shared some mantras on staying in the present. Take a look and read it HERE.

When are humans most happy? To gather data on this question, Matt Killingsworth built an app, Track Your Happiness, that let people report their feelings in real time. Among the surprising results: We're often happiest when we're lost in the moment. And the flip side: The more our mind wanders, the less happy we can be. (Filmed at TEDxCambridge.) Check out this TED Talk...it's a mere 10 minutes.

Can you print these and share them? Notes to colleagues to help inspire and encourage them. Now go slay yet another week!
